The Cumberland County Schools (CCS) Career and Technical Education (CTE) department held its fall Advisory Council meeting on October 30, 2019, in the CCS Board Room. The Advisory Council is made up of educational, governmental, and local business partners.

The meeting involved discussion around the new Perkins V legislation. Perkins V is the federal source of CTE funding. After some general information on the basics of the Perkins V legislation was given, the Council was divided into three groups for feedback on topics centered around the Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment. This document is part of the Local Application for Perkins V funds.

Council members gave responses to the topics of: student credential quality; career pathways program of study; and labor market alignment. It was pre-determined that the Council would have expertise in these three areas and could give good, relevant feedback. After all Council members rotated through the three topic stations, responses were recorded for future data utilization.

The CTE department is thankful to have Council partners that have assisted in the Local Application process. Our CTE Advisory Council members are committed to providing feedback and support to create a better future for our youth in Cumberland County.
