Seventy-First High School Partners with Local Food Lion

SFHS Receives Check from Food Lion

Q. Collins, M. Williams, Mr. Walters and S. Ford

Seventy-First High School (SFHS) and the Food Lion Store located in the Rayconda Plaza Shopping Center in Fayetteville, NC partnered to assist students with after school backpack meals and provide community involvement. This joint venture was proposed by the school’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) advisor, Mr. Stan Ford.

The Food Lion Store Manager, Mr. Walters, provided the Seventy-First staff and community with a wealth of knowledge on how to take advantage of Food Lion sales, weekly specials, coupons, and the rewards program. This partnership ignited discussion between Mr. Myron Williams, SFHS Principal and Mr. Walters, store manager, to provide an ongoing student and family backpack meal campaign after school and on weekends. The backpack campaign allowed students and families to have nutritious meals, stay active in the classroom, learn, and exhibit positive behaviors.

A basketball game was arranged between the Seventy-First High School staff, and the Food Lion staff. This event led the Food Lion Corporation to donate $500 to the school’s Future Business Leaders of America Chapter along with bags, cups, and gift certificates to help promote additional community programs. This partnership has encouraged other local businesses to reach out and assist in the campaign.
