Chef Payne Miles

On Friday, March 9th, Chef Payne Miles from Johnson & Wales University spoke to the Culinary Arts students at South View High School.  He encouraged the students to pursue a career they love and is passionate about.  At Johnson & Wales, students are allowed to dive right into what they love during their first semester.  Students learn real world experiences that mirror the workplace and develop valuable analytical and communication skills needed to manage complex situations.

Chef Miles explained to the students the admission process, how to apply for financial aid, campus living, and the various majors offered at the university.  The students were very interactive with the speaker by asking questions such as “What is an acceptable SAT score for the university?’ and “Are there internship opportunities for students?”

Chef Miles prepared a crispy fried rice with pickling onions and cucumbers which were cooked in various spices.  Chef Miles told the students, “This is one of my wife’s (who is from Jamaica) favorite dishes.”   The students loved it!
