Westover High School Hosts Career Fair

On February 21, 2018, fifth graders from Ponderosa Elementary School traveled the short distance from their school to Westover High School.  Their mission was to explore eight Career Clusters by visiting the Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes taught at Westover High School that fall into these eight clusters.

Career Clusters represented include:

1. Law, Public Safety, Correction and Security
2. Health Science
3. Hospitality and Tourism
4. Business Management and Administration
5. Marketing
6. Architecture and Construction
7. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
8. Transportation, Distribution and Logistics

The Career Fair was an opportune time to layout the pathway from elementary school through secondary education. Statistics show that by “2025, North Carolina will require 67% of its working population to have some education or training beyond high school.”

In addition, the Career Fair allowed the fifth grade students to explore their future in Career and Technical Education and beyond. “Celebrate Today, Own Tomorrow” was the motto for the month of February which in North Carolina is recognized as Career and Technical Education month.  Read this and more in the 3.27.18 CTE News Brief now!
