 CTE News Briefs – March 19, 2018 

Mayor Mitch Colvin visited New Century International Middle School to speak with CTE students about careers and the importance of education. He talked about his background as a businessman, how he got started in politics, and why it’s important to give back to your community. Mayor Colvin stated “I was told to never say never, you never know what tomorrow may hold”. The students asked questions ranging from education, careers, and politics. Mayor Colvin gave students insightful information on how to stay focused and reach their goals.

South View High School students in George Brooks’ class participated in the Day of Cyber at the National Security Agency (NSA) on February 14, 2018.  The NSA Day of Cyber sponsored by the National Security Agency, is an online, and interactive cyber career exploration experience, which runs on the Life Journey platform.   Read the 3.19.18 CTE News Briefs now!

CCS CTE connects to Hendrick Auto Group

On February 8, 2018 Hendrick Automotive Group in Charlotte hosted a tour of their facility and an opportunity to learn more about the automotive industry. They focused on building community relations and creating a pipeline to fill auto technician positions throughout the industry.

The Rick Hendrick Automotive Group has 102 dealerships doing business in 14 states and currently have 250 job openings for Technicians. These jobs can provide high income salary for our students. Our goal is to educate students in the middle and high school about the different careers in the automotive industry and expose the lucrative income.  We look forward to partnering with our Fayetteville Hendrick facility in the near future.  Read the 2.14.18 CTE News Briefs now!

Chip Lucas, CTE Executive Director at South View High School in George Brooks’ class

Chip Lucas, Executive Director of Career and Technical Education presents  Hour of Code  certificates to students at South View High School.    What is the Hour of Code? It is a global movement by Computer Science Education and reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries through a one-hour introduction to computer science and computer programming. The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. DBHS, Academy of Green Technology, Prepare for performance race

The Douglas Byrd High School Academy of Green Technology  (AoGT) Remote Control Car Team traveled to Raleigh to participate in the North Carolina State University’s Sustainable Transportation Education Program (STEP) Solar competition.

Four AoGT students finished 3rd overall in the  STEP competition.  These students designed and modified a remote control car that raced in two competitions. The overall winners were rated on their car’s performance in the races, the quality of their portfolio as well as several other areas.   Read the 12.12.17 CTE News Briefs now!
